Vuurwapen Blog Radio

The other day, I thought to myself that it might be fun to talk about guns with friends, record the conversation, and release it to anyone who might want to listen.

If this is successful, we will do it again, with more guests/co-hosts.

In this first episode of “Vuurwapen Blog Radio,” we discuss the proposed changes to ITAR, different BCG coatings and platings, flash performance while using a silencer on an AR15, and Battle Rifle Company. These topics come from questions that have been emailed to me by blog readers over the last…well questions that have been emailed over a certain period of time to which I never properly responded.

  1. Always enjoyed your articles, and you have answered every email Ive sent you in a timely manner! Well…except that one. Really enjoying the podcast!

  2. The ITAR implications of the things we discuss on the ‘Net has worried me for some time. As it stands now, it wouldn’t take much twisting to use ITAR’s “Defense Service” definition against us.

    Ҥ 120.9 Defense service.
    (a) Defense service means:
    (1) The furnishing of assistance (including training) to foreign persons, whether in the United States or abroad in the design, development, engineering, manufacture, production, assembly, testing, repair, maintenance, modification, operation, demilitarization, destruction, processing or use of defense articles;
    (2) The furnishing to foreign persons of any technical data controlled under this subchapter (see § 120.10), whether in the United States or abroad;….”

    The only firearms exempted from the US Munition List are sporting shotguns, airguns, and black powder muzzle loaders. All cartridge handguns and rifles are legally considered to be Significant Military Equipment (SME), just like combat shotguns, machineguns, and sound suppressors. The way I read it, even a vintage Ferguson or Hall breechloader could be lumped in as SME despite their age and obsolescence. The real kicker is that any technical data related to SME is itself considered SME.

  3. Awesome. Love the simple format and high audio quality. Good discussion, once a host-cohost dynamic gets going I’m sure it will get even better.

    Hope to see another episode soon.

  4. Can you post the feed address for us Android folks?

    Also, look into the PowerPress plugin for WordPress, its really powerful, and I use it to manage both of my shows. Works no matter where you’re hosting your files, and its free.

  5. I enjoyed this, and I would appreciate you continuing to post these.

    I particularly enjoyed the more technical discussions, so anything in the vein would certainly pique my interest.

    P.S. Andrew, I’ll officially be a HM in about three weeks.

  6. Thanks for giving more details about the BRC testing. I’m looking forward to your next upload if you continue the podcast.

  7. Really enjoyed this and would definately subscribe to your Podcast. Always appreciate your no BS style of commentary and sense of humor. PS – the comment re: Kyrptec camo comment was hillarious.
