Unsafe Firearm Handling

Here is a three minute video on how not to shoot.

Edit: They’ve removed the above video, but here’s a 4 minute video (from the same organization) titled “The Professionals,” in which you will see no professional behavior or skills.

Thanks to John at No Lawyers, Only Guns and Money for the link.

  1. But…but…they SAID they were professionals…they even had heart pumping rock music! And some sort of thigh mounted apparatus! And they wear HAIX! Heroes wear HAIX! Don’t you know that?

    Good lord.

  2. Exactly how many people were killed in the making of that video? Holy crossed fields of fire, Batman! >:O

  3. Apparently Aysha Webb (one of the instructors) is also a part time singer/songwriter, specializing in Sade ripoffs, when she’s not heroically trying to increase ADE’s insurance premiums.

  4. Wow. Simply, wow. This is the direct result of Mall Ninjas spending too much time together and deciding it was time someone opened a “real” tactical training academy. I can’t even fathom what they were thinking.

  5. Ouch! do I smell some Israeli involvement? Love the field-of-fire mix – and the way the guy gerns to the camera with his knives – real professionals!

  6. I’m going to suggest what was depicted is exactly the kind of training some exclusive units do perform – and why at least one SEAL yearly is wounded or killed in that kind of live fire rehearsal.

There is a significant amount of FF during MILES training, especially in MOUT. Your team must recognize that and train knowing one screwup in crossing your buddy’s field of fire could be life threatening. There’s a reason the back of your armor is equally hardened.

I’m also going to suggest there’s hours of rehearsals on the cutting room floor, so to speak – to get the choreography down where the participants were comfortable. THEN the few live fire sequences were shot. And don’t forget that DEVGRU did exactly the same – walked out a simulated version of a Pakistani upper class safehouse numerous times to review who was doing what and how.

    • I agree to a certain extent. The “best of the best of the best, sir” probably cross in front of each other’s barrels a lot more often than most shooters would be comfortable with. I’d gladly let a special forces operator shoot over my shoulder to save my life.

However, look at something like the way three of them shot the the targets together outside. What possible advantage do you get by sprinting in front of someone’s line-of-fire and having him shoot both on your right and left. If you are the superior marksmen (which you better be in such a circumstance) then why wouldn’t you create more distance and let your team open fire more safely?

So you’re suggesting the participants in the video are operators who take the risk of being shot in the back because they’re going to be inserted into a hostile foreign environment at night by helicopter to kill/extract a HVT?

And because of this certain eventuality, the need to muzzle sweep other participants and risk serious injury or death is a necessary risk that must be taken?

I love the use of ‘suggest’ in your post. It implies a specific knowledge but intentionally falls short of stating fact. There’s usually only one reason to state something that way…

  8. Anyone who defends this absurdity is just as stupid. Unfortunately this isn’t a joke or troll video.

  9. You rarely see the famed mall ninja at work on the range. This is a very rare and exclusive peek into just how hardcore these high speed shopping center enforcers train!

Seriously. This is asinine! There is absolutely no reason that anyone needs to practice this. If you feel the need to practice something like shooting past a partner use one of the MANY other “safe” options (airsoft, simunitions, paintball, fats etc etc). This is simply some retards who got a hot deal on some trucker hats with a ripped off thunder ranch logo on them and some mall ninja kit and thought that made them “operators”. Someone will die.

  10. I knew it was going to be ugly when I saw they don’t even know how to wear a drop holster properly.

    I wasn’t disappointed.

  11. Some of the choreographies reminded me of dancing with the stars… (amateurs who don’t really know what they’re doing and why, but who clearly practiced a lot). 9/10 for effort, 10/10 for stupidity.

  12. I know we Marines aren’t particularly “high speed” but I just can’t fathom how “good training” would ever consist of running in front of other shooters for no damn reason. I’d feel safer shooting on some BLM land with drunk rednecks than with these loons.

  13. If you want a good laugh, check out their website! I can’t believe they are real, has to be some kind of joke.

  14. That is just sad. They are going to end up shooting one of their instructors or their students with all that stupid, uneccessary movement. I almost fell out of my chair when the guy whipped out the knives.

  15. They took the video off the web, but if you watch “Promotional DVD” on their own site, the second half is it. I still don’t understand what they are thinking when they shoot this kind of video. I would say instead of a combat mindset, they have a circus mindset. “Look mum, no hands !” We all know how that ends…

  16. I really need to practice that “run up and fall down and then shoot skyward” trick. How would you classify that move? Is the follow up to low crawl away after you expend your round? I mean these fools should be limited to ONE ROUND. I think Barney Fife had better gun handling skills.

  17. LOL, that lady stands in the funnel in the second video.

Yes, just stand in that doorway, perfectly framed. Pretending you’re a member of the Pima County SWAT Team? Sheesh.

  18. I’m not defending the video or even attempting to establish any credibility for their actions. I am saying that what you see is practiced. If YOU see problems with it, good – that critique means you not only understand the risks involved, you’ve ALSO had the training to do that job.

Goes to my point – there is more of this going on than meets the eye. Would I, or do I expressly state a three man team would need to simultaneously shoot the same target – by having the lead drop to the ground exposing his teammates to the fire? There are obvious disadvantages to that. Again, it goes to “How would you know except YOU have had similar training?”

That the video is mostly sensationalist marketing hype isn’t really the issue – that’s beyond question. The outtakes and botched rehearsal would be more informative, and using Simunitions or airsoft, the glaring errors visible in all their runny dayglo emphasis. Precisely why only those who really need to get it right do it. And as I said, it claims the life of a serious dedicated soldier about every year.

You saying he’s an airsoft ninja? No, I doubt it. But they do practice live fire crossing each other’s field, and they do get injured and killed.

Keep pointing out faults in the video, it substantiates what I said, and potential students laying out good money need to have the instructor’s levels of expertise clearly spelled out. If I’m just suggesting something, I appreciate others coming right out and saying they know about this in detail. Of course, real professionals don’t post video, so I don’t expect any from better sources. We don’t need to put this all over the net, too many would use it against us.

    • Real professionals know how to grasp and manipulate a pistol properly. This was assclownery, pure and simple. The kind of assclownery that is going to get a student killed: “Outtakes” from these kind of films don’t go on the cutting room floor, they go six feet under Forest Lawn.

  19. Wow, are these guys real?
I thought this was a promo for a new TV comedy show about Rodeo Drive mall cops.
BTW I’ve never seen plastic titties or Botox at a Magpul class.

      • ^^^
        Quoted for truth!

I’m looking forward to the day that those yellow 1980’s AM/FM stereo headphones make a comeback. I can’t imagine finer ear protection anywhere. And besides, with instructors like these, you might be better tuning into talk radio and actually learning something worth knowing.

  20. That’s a bunch of bull$it right there….

I can’t believe people pay money for this crap when there are so many world class trainers available….Vickers, Ken H, Rogers, Falla, Paul Howe, Panonne, Lamb, Costa/Steve Fisher, Travis Haley, the Tiger Swans….boggles the mind.

  21. I thought it was a joke, some satire perhaps. This cannot be a serious video…could it? It has to be a satire of some kind. It looked like a bunch of jokers making fun of, not serious shooters. Their body language said this is a joke.

  22. Back in the 90s I observed and shot with the BATF at a now closed Southern California police range. While they didn’t take any of the risks seen in this video, they had the same attitude as the “instructors”. Seeing the video brought back memories.
