Highly Modified FAMAE SAF

A friend of mine took an FAMAE SAF and basically modified it to be a lot like a pistol caliber 55X series Sig rifle. Here's a list of the modifications he made, which he said took about 50 hours over two years: New safety (original SIG Parts adapted) left and right hand use free floating barrel with flash hider adapted 553 4rail one piece toprail front and rearsight removed (that was a lot of work to grind it clean) the whole buttplate for the folding stock was removed an original SIG… Read More

Sig Sauer M400 vs. Sig Sauer 516 High Speed Video Comparison

In this video, it is fairly easy to see that both the Sig M400 and Sig 516 are cycling at approximately 830rpm and display a small amount of bolt bounce in stock configuration: Please see my previous SHOT high speed video post for more information. Unlike the video in that link, the rifles in today's post are being shot by the same person. Here's some of what I had to say in that previous article: The rate at which the bolt carrier assembly recoils rearward can have an effect on… Read More

Sig Continues Series of Embarrassing Pistol Tender Failures

Last year, Sig Sauer's P250 lost the ATF handgun tender because of significant reliability issues. Sig's response was to improve the pistol - no, wait, their response was to appeal to the GAO, saying in part that the ATF put too much of an emphasis on reliability. The GAO promptly smacked Sig's claim down in a pretty embarrassing manner. Fast forward to this year, where Sig's big contract with the Dutch police for the P250 was pretty much the only thing the company had to crow about. Frankly, I was… Read More

When Will We See True Firearm Innovation?

As yet another major firearm manufacturer announces a "groundbreaking, game-changing" product that is anything but, I have to ask - when will we see something that's truly innovative? Every new firearm that's been announced for the last few years - heck, probably more - has been presented to the consumer as if it is nothing short of revolutionary - in fact, that word is often used to describe the new product of the month. Almost invariably, though, this "revolutionary" firearm is simply an amalgamation of previous designs packaged in a… Read More

How Sig Sauer Pistols are Made

My epic film masterpiece has been posted on The Firearm Blog. It was shot on location at Eckernforde, Germany, in the Sig Sauer factory. A big thanks to Steve at The Firearm Blog and the whole GunsForSale.com team for trusting me to put all this together for them.

Sig Sauer Covers All Bases with New M400

Speculation on my part, but it looks like Sig may be covering all possible options with the upcoming US Army carbine competition. Their "M400" is a standard AR with a gas tube. Mentioned in the video is a modified extractor - I'd like more details on this. Beyond what you see here, I have no information about this weapon. https://youtu.be/Lk3gq6uwuxU

Again, new video format. Will supplant, not replace, older style videos if it is well received. The goal is to create a descriptive 1 to 2 minute video on a firearm or accessory.
