I differentiate my Mustangs by color ("the silver one" or "the white one") or age ("the older one" or "the newer one"). Same with AR-15s - the spray painted one, the shiny one, etc. This AR-15, a Spike's midlength, I now refer to as "the burned one." It remains serviceable, reliable, and accurate, with the only parts replacement being a new top MOE handguard - the bottom remains the same. It's photographed here with the old handguard for...dramatic effect? Whenever I get some free time (probably sometime in 2014), I… Read More

Look, I Made a Video and Stuff
It's about AR-15s, and fire, and there is a photo of the delightful Ms. Viscusi shooting from the prone.
How To Set Your AR-15 On Fire
Today I shot a Spike's Tactical midlength AR-15 until it caught fire. The MOE handguard caught fire, that is. I posted some photos on Facebook, and naturally, it garnered some attention. There were a number of comments about how MOE handguards suck, or plastic sucks, or that normal ARs suck. I am not very concerned about the lamentations of the ignorant, but I would like to address the comments about Magpul products from a quality standpoint. First, I've tested normal and MOE handguards, as well as KAC aluminum handguards, from… Read More
AR-15 Muzzle Device Discussion
An off-the-cuff, unscripted video discussing various muzzle devices, with some high speed and HD range video thrown in for good measure.
“What (Blank) Should I Buy?”
If I set out to buy one of the following, this is what I would look for as of February 2012. Some things have great alternatives that aren't listed and some things have great alternatives that are listed. Some things I've gotten for free and some things I haven't. Some things might be more or less than you need. But if you ask me a general question about what (blank) to buy, this is probably what I'd recommend. ...a 5.56mm rifle - Colt SP6920. ...a .308/7.62x51 rifle - FNH USA… Read More
Sig Sauer M400 vs. Sig Sauer 516 High Speed Video Comparison
In this video, it is fairly easy to see that both the Sig M400 and Sig 516 are cycling at approximately 830rpm and display a small amount of bolt bounce in stock configuration: Please see my previous SHOT high speed video post for more information. Unlike the video in that link, the rifles in today's post are being shot by the same person. Here's some of what I had to say in that previous article: The rate at which the bolt carrier assembly recoils rearward can have an effect on… Read More
Setting Up Your AR-15 – Do You Need BUIS?
Back up iron sights, or BUIS, aren't very expensive compared to the cost of a rifle, but can add up to a few hundred dollars. Are they a worthy purchase, or is your money better spent elsewhere?
Spike’s Tactical SAR Rail Review
I have been using the Spike's Tactical SAR rails for quite some time, and although they are extremely light, they do not seem to give up any strength or durability. However, I have several problems with the way they were designed and manufactured. Spike's Tactical provided both of these rails for review, as well as some of the rifles seen in the video. This video is a modification of the "new video format" I tested a few months ago.
Rainier Arms/Samson Evo Rail Review
I have been using the Rainier/Samson Evo rail for a good while, and after my initial reservations about its installation, have found it to be a rather decent and very lightweight handguard. Like the Centurion Arms C4 rail I recently reviewed, the Evo rail was provided by Rainier Arms. It is currently available for $175, which is, I think, a competitive price.
Centurion Arms C4 Rail Review
I have a good number of rails to review at the moment, some of which I've had longer than the Centurion Arms C4 rail. To say that I have a slight product review backup at the moment would be...stating that fact mildly. However, I have spent the most range time with and have the most photos of the Centurion, so without further ado, here is the video. Like a number of things reviewed here in the past, this rail was provided for review by Rainier Arms. The Centurion Arms C4… Read More
