Here are some photos I took while in the Middle East recently. They were taken with a Canon S95, Nikon V1, Pentax K-01 and iPhone 4S.

    • In terms of petty crime or assault, I felt safe in all parts of the city. I would not recommend that a young woman wander aimlessly (there or anywhere, for that matter). There were police and soldiers every 100 yards or so on most streets, almost all armed with assault rifles. The country’s intelligence minister was assassinated by a car bomb in late October so obviously not all is well. Most of the KFCs remained operational though.

  1. Nice photos. It’s amazing what the ancient peoples accomplished, and a shame that so little remains of it.

  2. The Bacchus temple was my favorite when I visited and have to say your pics came out amazing, very cool keep up the awesome work.

    • Thanks to you and everyone else for the compliments on the photos. I have been working to improve my photography skills lately and will continue to do so.

  3. Have you read P.J. O’Rourke’s piece about his trip to Byblos and Baalbek in Holidays In Hell?

It’s one of the best pieces he’s written.

  4. How hard is it to get around and communicate in a country like that as an English speaker? I’m presuming here you don’t speak much Arabic or French?

  5. They sure knew how to build back then. I wonder how many of our mega-structures will hold up to the ages as well as those temples?

  6. Nice collection of Historical pics…all these are priceless for us…we must protect these for our future generation aslo. Thanks Andrew:)

  1. […] stuff of legends. But I found the Lebanese countryside to be far more welcoming and attractive. See my photos of Lebanon’s historical sites for more on that topic.Leave a CommentLeave a Reply Cancel replyPowered by WordPressWordPress Mobile Themes   View Full […]
