Rob_S, creator of the oft-discussed spreadsheet comparing M4 rifles from various manufacturers known simply – and ominously – as “The Chart,” has released a long-awaited new version which includes more testing, features, and is based on a survey of manufacturers.
This “new chart” includes Accurate Armory, Bravo Company, CMMG, Colt, Daniel Defense, LMT, Noveske, SIONICS, Spike’s Tactical, and Stag. Olympic is also listed, but apparently didn’t provide any information other than their telephone number.
Considering how Oly gets bashed right good on every forum except their own, it’s not surprising they don’t want to be a part of a comparison…
I’m surprised at the LMT.
Thanks A T
So what are the anti Spike’s folks going to dig at now?
The list would be much more useful if the “preferred” option was indicated. As it is I can see very few differences between manufacturers and the few differences that are highlighted don’t really tell me that much.
I realize that some options depend on other factors like the weight of the bullet, etc. Does any manufacturer produce a high-quality AR platform with the most commonly cited “preferred” options?
For what it’s worth, the standard on that page is the Colt and that’s why many of them, BCM and Spike’s for example, match the Colt’s features. I agree, it’d be nicer to have highlighted where Rob thinks something is deficient (assuming Colt is the standard)
the idea is that the Chart itself lists the specs and nothing else with no weight given. the Explanation of Features should help people understand the why behind the specs so that they can decide if it’s important to them or not.
Hope this helps.
I’m disapointed that S&W decided not to participate.
