I am impressed with Mega’s quality. I think they’re one of the better values out there as you pointed out of fit and finish. I have a matched Rainier-branded forged set and the finish is excellent. Their monolithic rails are also interesting and an alternative to Vltor VIS rails.
They need to work on their marketing to get better mindshare. I know Rainier is a big proponent and distributor of their stuff possibly because they’re both in Washington state.
Innovation-wise, they’re supporting the ambidextrous trend but I hope to see them come out with more interesting stuff like what CMMG is doing. Their new trigger has got an interesting look but from many reports, it is a first generation attempt and should be refined.
I bought a set last year from Rainier and indeed they are a very nice fit and finish. Basic upper/lower combination on steroids, is it necessary? No, but it looks brutal and one is enough for me.
You’re right about the “take up” pin, the fit is so nice it was hardly useful. However someone mating another brand to the lower may find it a nice option. Also agree on the charging handle, meh… Would have liked a $30.00 discount on combo rather that their billet handle included.
