Maybe We Should Let The Air Force Concentrate On Cool Things They Want To Focus On, Like Lasers In Space…

…and not the transfer/disposal of KIA servicemembers’ remains. Because they don’t seem to be doing a very good job at keeping track of or treating with respect the remains of those who have died overseas while wearing the uniform of the United States military.

  1. Reading the story, it seems a large part of the remains disposed of in landfills were small bone fragments or flesh that was recovered after the main body was recovered. It sounds like they were treating it like bio hazardous waste, not remains and were disposing it as such. It was very irresponsible and insensitive, but I also think that the story is slightly overblown. Its not like they were taking whole remains of servicemembers and throwing them in landfills like the headline indicates.

Ive been in two branches of our armed forces and currently serve in the USAF and don’t feel that this is solely a problem with the air force. If I recall correctly, there was a flap a while back about some headstones in Arlington being used as pavers, which I feel is far more disrespectful than throwing bone fragments in a landfill. It seems there are lazy people in all branches and at all levels of our government.

  2. If I die in a warzone, and some bit of fingernail or skin is found after I’m buried, throw the damn thing away! It’s not like they were putting bodies in a dumpster behind walmart. Also, famlies of the deceased were ok with this. Of all the people to care, wouldn’t they care the most? This story is nothing but sensationalist reporting.

    • The families were okay with “disposal” – do you really think the families were notified that the remains would be “disposed of” in a landfill?

      • I’m pretty sure the “families” were NOT ok with their deceased loved ones AND service members being thrown out like like an orange peel.

    • Good call I was just thinking the same thing before I read your post. In the end all of this is just going to cause a lot of ass pain for people that already work long hours.
