(I lost track of this for a few weeks, so I hope that this help will come in time for Y-man)
If you’ve been a reader of The Firearm Blog for any period of time, you’ve probably seen Emmanuel, or Y-man, mentioned before. He lives in Nigeria (or Najia, as it’s apparently called by the locals) and legally owns a few shotguns, which he has to maintain himself with no spare parts or support network. Here are some of his posts:
A Nigerian’s Shotgun
Turning Birdshot Into Slugs for Self Defense
Saga of the Nigerian Shotgun
He also has a few videos on his YouTube channel.
He’s going to be in Orlando later this year, and is looking for ranges at which to shoot. If anyone has suggestions, please post them.
Oh, I almost forgot –
My top 6, but there are at least twice this here. My fave is Volusia County.
Indoor:
Shoot Straight Casselberry Open to the public
Shoot Straight Apopka Open to the public
East Orange Shooting sports Open to the public
Outdoor:
Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club Need a member to go
Volusia County Gun and Hunt Club Need a member to go
Strickland Shooting Range Open to the public
I think Indoor will do:
I have read up on the Shoot Straight Apopka: is this any where near/ close to the Marriott World Centre (Thats where I will be staying…) I hope to do some shopping too: is this place (Shoot Straight Apopka) centrally placed?
Y-man, if you make it to Montana, I’d take you shooting any time!! Also, if you see any of those craigslist (responding) scammers in your neck of the woods, shoot them in the face for me…or the deposed prince of Nigeria who wants to use my bank account to launder his riches.
LOL, jpcmt: just point me at them! (We hate them even more here: and those who get caught, usually pray for a quick end…)
Shoot Straight in Apopka is a fine indoor range. Also, it’s very close to the Spike’s Tactical shop (literally a few minutes away) so you can pop in and see their operation (which is very impressive)
Thanks Todd.

If he is near Central Florida…I would love to host him at Greenswamp Sport Club… http://www.greenswampsportclub.com/ ….just south of Groveland, FL. http://bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&pc=FACEBK&mid=8100&rtp=adr.%7Epos.28.455324_-81.838227_Greenswamp+Sport+Club_7401+State+Road+33+%2C+Clermont%2C+Florida&cp=28.455324%7E-81.838227&lvl=16&sty=r&rtop=0%7E0%7E0%7E&mode=D&FORM=FBKPL1&mkt=en-US
I live in Orlando and I agree with all the rec’s in the first post by Reloader Bob, except for East Orange Shooting Sports. They are an awful operation and I cannot recommend heartily enough that one steer clear of them. I says this as an LEO who has purchased two firearms from them and still gets treated like absolute sh*t by the staff. The owner is a good guy…but the people who work for him are rude and ignorant.
Shoot Straights are GTG for indoor ranges.
Y-Man –
Between what dates will you be in Orlando? Will you have your own personal transportation from Marriot World Center to get to locations in the Orlando area?
FYI, Shoot Straight Apopka is about 30 miles from the Disney area (where Marriot World Center is located). Shoot Straight Apopka has 12 indoor pistol firing points and 2 rifle points. I’ve never asked about shotguns.
Hi None: can’t say about the specific dates yet… But sometime in sunny October! I will not have my own transport, I plan to take cabs (About how much would such a trip cost me in $$$?)
I plan to rent and shoot pistols (.22 then .38 then 9mm, and if available: the BIG BOYS…) and whatever rifles they have. I assure you I have saved up a sh*tload of Dollars to BURN on Ammo! 🙂
Hi “None”, Thanks. I can’t confirm about the dates yet: but it should be October / November… (I hear its sunny and good that time of year?)
I will NOT have my own transport: I plan to take cabs around. Would you have an idea how much such a 30mile trip could cost via Taxi?

Man I wish I could be there. Y-Man is just one of those people you can’t dislike. He’s humble, polite, and dash-it-all clever, and I’d love to see him get his hands on some American firepower. Here’s hoping he has many years of MacGuyvering without running afoul of the Nigerian state.
Some of my favorite posts at the Firearms Blog have been by/about Y-man. I love his innovative spirit.
I remember his posts. They are highly interesting and I always think of the shotgun slugs. I just did a bunch of shotgun stuff over the weekend with my over-engineered SPAS12 and my shoulder is all bruised up!
The Oakridge Gun Range in Orlando. He can rent firearms there to shoot.
