Firearms, Gear, Parts, and Accessories That Don’t Exist, but Should

Below are a number of things that I think should exist, but do not, or not in acceptable quantities.

  • A single stack Glock in 9mm with frame and slide length and height approximately the size of a Glock 19. Larger would be cool too. A Smith & Wesson M&P would also be acceptable, if the trigger stopped being so incredibly, painfully horrible.
  • Spike’s Tactical hard chrome M16 bolt carrier groups. They exist, but are discontinued.
  • A single cell Elzetta ZFL-M60 flashlight. With a pocket clip integral to the body of the light.
  • Lothar-Walther AR15 barrels in 1/8 or 1/7 twist, 18″ or shorter, .750″ or less OD under the handguards. Oh, they definitely exist, they just aren’t as easy to find as barrels only. This would be a good opportunity for some dealer or distributor…
  • A Multitasker with a few tools that are more suitable for day-to-day use. I use the can opener on my SOG multi tool a lot more than I use some of the tools on my Multitasker Series 2.
  • More micro length bolt action rifles in smaller centerfire cartridges, preferably with twist rate suitable for heavier bullets, although I know the market will not support the costs of the tooling and effort necessary to produce them in the numbers I would like to see.
  • A newly manufactured centerfire rifle based on the Lee-Enfield action.

That is all I can think of for now, although I’m sure there will be some worthy suggestions in the comments.

  1. You should do a series on the opposite. “Firearms, Gear, Parts, and Accessories That Shouldn’t Exist, but Do”

    Magazine pouches… with 1913 rails.
    SxS shotguns… with 1913 rails.
Lever action rifles… with 1913 rails.

I see a pattern here. I’m not entirely sure you’d ever finish the list, either.

    • Condoms… with 1913 rails.

Hey, you never know when you might need to use your TLR-1, et. al to find those sensitive areas.

      • > Springfield, are you listening?

Doubtful. If they were, we’d have a decent laser for it, and there’s basically nothing. The LaserLyte RL-19N has come and gone, and it was less than ideal. There’s no rail, and the guide rod is nonstandard. Need a LaserGrip. The unrelated fact that the later Kimber Solo had a CT grip announced on day zero tells us that CT will likely never do an EMP grip.

The EMP is otherwise about perfect as a mini 1911, and seems to not need a longer barrel for accuracy (it might if you want more velocity).

My guess is that SA is content with having recovered some of the investment in the failed .45 GAP version, plans to just milk the EMP as-is, and the rest of the industry knows it.

If there were a CT grip for the EMP, I’d already own an EMP.

  2. The single-stack Glock has been on many people’s wishlists for years…it’d definitely save me the time of dancing around the PF9/CM9/LC9/J-frame/LCR question for a > QUALITY < CCW platform smaller than my G19…although, since the whole Gen4 debacles…who knows..

    • P.S. By quality, I don’t meant to insinuate that the aforementioned 9mm pocket-pistols are junk, but those manufacturers don’t exactly have “top-tier” status either.

  3. The Marlin Camp 9 with better quality plastic magwell assembly, integral lower profile rail and better sights.
A 1911 hicap magazine version of the Camp 45, with multi caliper conversion options… like the Rock Island TCM 22.

  4. Single stack Glock 9mm in G26 size would be optimal. I can’t imagine anything larger being very popular.

  5. *A Lancer AR magazine made for the 5.45x39mm cartridge (the magazine is the weak point in the 5.45 AR, in my opinion)
*Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44mm (but with Parallax)

  6. “Spike’s Tactical hard chrome M16 bolt carrier groups. They exist, but are discontinued.”

Nickel Boron has superior mechanical properties and is almost as shiny 🙂

      • Ouch. Having problems with the NiB BCG’s. I’ve seen them in many of your videos.

I run a Spike’s NiB BCG. I’m actually on my 2nd one. The first one had BAD issues with chipping and cracking on the NiB coating. This occurred inside the carrier, on the carrier rails, and where the hammer interfaces on the bottom. I’m local to Spikes so I swung by and they swapped me out for a brand new one…no questions asked. They said they had a bad batch come in from UTC/Fail Zero for the Nickel Boron process. They even used grade-8 torx fasteners like Grant does at G&R Tactical on the new BCG instead of the usual hex screws.

I’m curious about your comment. Can you elaborate?

          • My LWRC NiB carrier groups have been problem-free for about 6,000 rounds. I do not run them dry. It’s obviously not impervious to wear. I view the lubricity offered by the coating as an added advantage, not as a cure-all. Is it really fair to toss out the idea altogether? A parked/phosphated BCG might be adequate 99% of the time if properly lubricated, but what’s wrong with having the added slickness of the NiB coating?

          • I see your point and can’t argue that it’s necessary. Like David, I don’t run mine dry either. I find that the NiB lends a special smoothness to the action that a phosphated BCG has yet to match. I REALLY like mine, but I actually do not recommend it to my friends probably for the same reasons you state. Cost, mainly.

        • I would not say that I was ever a “fan” of nickel boron – I recall being skeptical and cautiously optimistic, but in any case, I would recommend against it now.

  7. On board with the mcro bolt suggestion, but like you don’t expect much to happen. The link to the CZ527 is a gun that has always interested me, but the twist is 1:12 and efforts to find out whether it is a 5.56 or .223 by me have been unsuccessful. The 7.62×39 CZ is a neat ideal, but too bad they don’t offer a 5.45×39. Ruger makes a compact .223 with 1:9 twist, a little over 6 pounds, and slightly less than a yard in length, but it doesn’t come with open sights which on a gun like this seems to be needed in my book.

  8. A real AR 12ga. with a staggered stack magazine – hi cap, but not too long. Not a plastic wannabe like the MKA1919.

  9. Love the single stack Glock 19 idea too. I own a G36, which is the next best thing.

I was really wanting something like the SIG P224, but maybe with a thinner slide. Do they make a 3″ 1911 with a double-stack magazine in 9mm?

How about more novak sights on revolvers?

  10. I don’t really get the whole Browning 1911-22 in a defensive caliber thing. You’d essentially wind up with somthing similar to the spanish Star series of pistols.

  11. I want a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

In addition to single stack pistols, glock should make 17s and 19s with smaller frames, similar to the custom grip reduction mods done.

  12. I love my short-barrelled Marlin 1894p (discontinued) in .44 and always get curious looks at it when I’m at the range. It’s light. And with a red dot on top it is pretty accurate out to about 80 yards. Sadly, the ammo is not cheap these days.

  13. When I saw the lothar walthar barrel part I thought immediately of larue… but those guns aren’t too widely distributed

  14. Ruger Scout rifle chambered in 5.56, NOT .223! And with a Vortex flash hider.
    S&W M&P in 10mm. With a 5 inch barrel.
    Ruger LCR in .327 Federal.

  15. I’m liking the idea of the Enfield action, modern-made, in something like 7.62×39. Kind of like the old Jungle Carbine, with the cone-shaped flash hider…..

  16. A low priced bolt action ( maybe Savage ) in 7.62x54R and 5.45×39

Magazines that actually work in 5.45×39 and 7.62×39

A %50 off sale for Geisselle triggers
