Ah, the dreaded “double feed” – something you need five hands, special tools, and a blessing from Odin to clear quickly, right?
Watch as this shooter clears and fires 8 rifles in just over 3 minutes – 4 of them while blindfolded. Two each of the following malfunctions:
– Bolt override double feed
– “Dead man’s chamber”
– Stovepipe
– Empty case override
Ok, I can’t find it on Google and I’ve never been told. What is a “dead man’s chamber” malfunction?
I’m pretty sure it’s just a loaded mag with an empty chamber. It’s generally the argument against Israeli carry.
A dead mans chamber is when you either have a bad round in the chamber or when you fail to fully seat a magazine in the rifle.
Thanks guys.
When he is sticking the muzzle in the sand to work the gun would there be a problem scooping up and it falling down the bore?
Another great vid, A.V.
A future post showing examples of these malfunctions, common causes of it, immediate clearing action and a preventative/maintenance after action would be great.
Some observations I’ve made watching this vid:
1. Some of the clearing actions require a lot of force pulling back the charging handle. Most OEM CH’s I’ve seen are thin and flimsy and may not hold up to the stress, especially when the charging is done from latch side only. More reason to go with a BCM charging handle.
2. On multiple occasions, I noticed the 2-point sling interfere with reinserting the magazine. Good opportunity to take this into practice consideration.
3. Josh bring up a good point about debris possibly lodging into the barrel’s lip. My AR has a three prong type flash hider and could easily get a pebble wedged in beween them.
I do believe that a student with an extended latch type charging handle bent his during this portion of the course. The GFHs in the class (and they were many), of course, had no such issues.
I also noticed the sling interference. I don’t seem to have the same issue when I mount the sling a little farther forward.
I second Josh’s concern about leaning into the rifle with the muzzle resting on the ground. That will catch up with you at some point.
Once again, thanks for making me feel inferior.
Great video, the previous comments on putting the muzzle into the ground were the same issues I saw. Although the idea of the charging handle breaking is new to me. Does the GunFighter charging handle come in an ambi configuration yet? Being left handed I’m always looking for things to make it easier to keep my firing hand on the pistol grip when doing manipulations.
