Glock Ejection Issues & Fixes

Glock has introduced a new ejector for some of their handguns, including the Gen 4 9mm pistols. The modified ejector is supposed to fix some of the reliability problems that have plagued the Glock Gen 4 from its introduction - problems which Glock devotees have steadfastly refused to admit the existence of. Interestingly enough, Mike Pannone (who, coincidentally, wrote a handbook about Glocks), worked on Gen 3 .40 caliber Glock issues way back in 2007. Either with the use of a 9mm trigger pack or tweaking the ejector about 1mm… Read More

Projectile Inbreeding – Is This a Gold Shok or a Hydra Dot?

I was emailed these photos (I believe they're stock ATK photos, but if credit needs to be given elsewhere, I'd appreciate it if someone let me know) of .327 Federal Magnum JHPs. The label clearly says HYDRA SHOK JHP, but the bullet is clearly not a traditional Hydra Shok. It's a Gold Dot...with a post. Like a Hydra Shok. Here's an expanded bullet, although the post appears to be missing. Looks quite like an expanded Gold Dot. And for reference purposes, here's a traditional Hydra Shok bullet, new and expanded.… Read More

The Stuff I Missed at SHOT Show

Because I was doing a lot of other things at the show, I missed out on seeing some of the new products at SHOT. I haven't really been too excited about any of the stuff I didn't see in person and am now only seeing electronically, but there are a few things worth mentioning. The Kahr PM9 now has a manual safety (meh) and a lighter trigger with less travel (slightly less meh). Guns.com has a photo. Benelli is making a nickel plated version of the M4 with a collapsible… Read More

Merry Christmas, Let’s Talk About Hazing

This will be a slight departure from my normal posts. As some of my readers might know, I was in the military (Technically, I still am). I progressed from a na¯ve Seaman Recruit to a tired-of-all-the-BS Hospital Corpsman Second Class in a relatively short period of time. I did not always know the right thing to do, and I often made mistakes – especially in the beginning stages of my enlistment. I do not believe that I was ever hazed as a result of those mistakes, or for any other… Read More

Negligent Discharges, or, “Firearms Safety Thursday”

This is from an 1886 newspaper. Do you suppose that cowboys in the 1880s sat around campfires and discussed the merits of .38 vs. .44?

Vuurwapen Blog – Now With More African Revolution News

Don't worry, I'm still here. "Here" at the moment is Tunisia. I went to Libya briefly (do not have much to report there). I also photographed the refugee camps inside Tunisia and do believe that I have a story to report from there, but will probably wait until after the 1st of April so that it is taken seriously. I was able to inspect (but not photograph in detail) Tunisian military and police weapons, as well. If all goes well, I will be out of Africa within 12 hours, and… Read More
