I wear flip flops almost every day and have done so for nearly my entire life. Therefore, I wear flip flops while shooting. This seems to upset some people when I post photos or videos online, so I'll take a moment to explain further. Train How You Fight I have said this a few times lately, but it really is important to "train how you fight." A long time ago, I was working on the "Lifesaving" merit badge. I had the fastest rescue time in part due to my ability… Read More

Weight Loss For The Sniper Adventure Challenge
The Competition Dynamics 24 Hour Sniper Adventure Challenge starts this Friday, July 5, and I have been giving a lot of thought to the lessons I learned last year as I prepare for this year's event. I have also been trying to guess what sort of devious challenges have been cooked up this time around. Only one thing is certain: I will have very unhappy thoughts about Zak Smith (match director) for much of this weekend. What To Expect Last year's event took place in essentially mountainous terrain (valley-to-peak elevation… Read More
Topics Covered During July 27/28 Carbine Course
After what we feel was a rather successful first carbine course, Jim Staley and I have worked out the topics for the second course, which will be held at the same location, Sniper Country in northern Utah, and which you may sign up for here. You may note the inclusion of pistol shooting; 100 rounds of pistol ammo will be needed and we are able to provide this at a reasonable cost for students as we did with rifle ammo for the first class. Another change is that the course… Read More

NRA Show Coverage
I've posted several different articles on The Firearm Blog regarding new Magpul products, the new Beretta Pico pistol, and the 16" version of the CAA RONI Glock carbine conversion. More to come.
Billions of Bullets and Thousands of MRAPs, Oh My
In this video, I discuss the rumors of DHS purchasing enough ammo to kill everyone in the solar system 14,000 times. A Thought On Personal Safety And Security
I am encouraged by the fact that more and more people are seeking to take responsibility for their own safety and security. Many do this through concealed carry, which is absolutely a major (and good) step. However, simply having a firearm and not taking any other actions or precautions will not lead to the most ideal security situation, and I will not focus on firearms in this article. Instead, I want to discuss how to balance safety and reality. More precisely, I want to put some things in perspective. What… Read More
I Survived Seven Minutes In Heaven With Nikki Lane
Nikki Lane, lovely lady and shooter extraordinaire, has decided to start interviewing personalities in the gun industry. The series is called "Seven Minutes in Heaven with Nikki Lane." I was her first victim subject. She asked me how I came to choose the name Vuurwapen, what I think qualifies me to do what I do, what I think of the current situation we find ourselves in, and things that my "perfect girlfriend" would like. This will come as a shock to longtime viewers/readers, but she made me laugh and smile… Read More
Luminox – The Worst Watch I’ve Ever Owned
I bought this Luminox watch because it had truly "glow in the dark" hands and markings - not luminescent paint, but fancy capsules that glow for 25 years. It was great, until it broke. I was doing some laps in a shifter kart when the second hand simply fell off and prevented the other hands from turning. Luminox advertisements show fighter jets and imply world-class durability; needless to say, I wasn't pulling 9 Gs in a shifter kart. When I contacted them to fix it - I had owned it… Read More
Arizona Landscape Photos
I've been traveling a lot lately, but on the rare occasion when I am home and have time to go outside, I've found that the place I live is most beautiful. I thought I'd share some of that with you.
