Kershaw Blur S30V vs. Benchmade Gaucho M4

Another knife review...this one comparing two knives that I have owned and used for a while. I apologize for the length, I tried to keep it as short as possible... Also tried to remain more objective.

Mayflower Research & Consulting Low Profile Armor Carrier

Like many who've been in the military, I've spent long periods of time wearing armor. It's hot, uncomfortable, and tiring - though you eventually get used to it. While deployed, I wore ye olde Interceptor OTV, as well as the Eagle CIRAS-Maritime, and, occasionally, just a TAG plate carrier. The latter was the most comfortable, even if it was still intended to be used as an "external" plate carrier. I found it easier to sleep in, although the lack of soft armor did mean that my E-SAPI plates dug in… Read More

Multitasker Tube

I really like the Mulititasker Series 2, as you can see in this review. There were a few things I wasn't enamored with, but overall, it's a very high quality and useful tool. The Tube is a reduced form factor AR-specific tool, which I review here. I am not really sold on many of the Tube's tool attachments, or its large case, but do think it would be nice to have in certain situations. If I had to pick just one of the Multitasker tools to buy, though, it would… Read More

I don't even have time to take a halfway decent picture...I'm off to the range! Some of my friend Kristofer Gulbrandsen's hard work has finally paid off. Edit - back from the range - it works! More video to come.

Vltor A5 Stock System Followup

After 4 months with the Vltor A5, I have found that it just works - with everything. Every possible 5.56mm upper, and many other calibers, have been tested with the A5, and the results are always more than satisfactory. It builds on the reliability of the rifle buffer system while expanding the length of pull range of the traditional collapsible stock system. In addition, it offers increased durability when longer stocks such as the Vltor EMod or Magpul ACS are used.

Ruger SR-556

I'm going to be honest. I would probably never purchase this rifle. It just has too many drawbacks, in my mind - it's heavy, it has an extreme forward CG, it's not fully end user serviceable, you're effectively limited to one rail system, and it's a gas piston/op-rod weapon. These are the items that came to mind when I first examined an SR-556 at the 2009 NRA show in Phoenix. Evidently, Ruger heard enough about weight from customers that they recently introduced the SR556C model, which has a shorter, fluted… Read More

AR Weight Calculator Improved

I've updated the AR-15 weight calculator with drop down style selections for most parts. This should make it much easier to use. I've added a wide variety of parts and will continue to add more in the future. The original calculator will still be available for those who have a configuration not listed in the drop down boxes.
