Praetor Defense 1911 Holster Update

I've been using the Praetor Defense non-rail 1911 holster for a few weeks since I bought it from Weapon Outfitters. While I'm going to continue to use and test it, here are my initial thoughts. I was excited to try out the 1911 version, because I love the Praetor Defense Glock 19 holster more than I love ice cream. The elements are all there - the compact layout, the quality hardware, the tough belt loops, and the flowing lines that result from the way Blade-Tech molds holsters. This holster, like… Read More

.300 Blackout Accuracy & Velocity Data

Last week, I put several types of .300 AAC Blackout ammo through two short uppers, using 8" and 10" Noveske barrels. While I do not have photos due to a hard drive failure, I do have velocity and accuracy data, so I'll make this short and sweet. If you're really looking for the short version, the ammo to definitely buy is the UMC 115gr CTFB (closed tip flat base) ammo, with an honorable mention to the Atlanta Arms 125gr Pink Tip ammo for reliability/velocity reasons, if not accuracy. Uppers, as… Read More

Spike’s Tactical SAR Rail Review

I have been using the Spike's Tactical SAR rails for quite some time, and although they are extremely light, they do not seem to give up any strength or durability. However, I have several problems with the way they were designed and manufactured. Spike's Tactical provided both of these rails for review, as well as some of the rifles seen in the video. This video is a modification of the "new video format" I tested a few months ago.

Rainier Arms/Samson Evo Rail Review

I have been using the Rainier/Samson Evo rail for a good while, and after my initial reservations about its installation, have found it to be a rather decent and very lightweight handguard. Like the Centurion Arms C4 rail I recently reviewed, the Evo rail was provided by Rainier Arms. It is currently available for $175, which is, I think, a competitive price.

Do Nickel Boron Plated Firearms Need Lube?

After several years with various Nickel Boron-plated AR-15 components, I am of the opinion that they should still be lubricated just like any other bolt carrier group. It is important to note that I held this opinion even when I had relatively little experience with nickel boron. Nickel boron is a coating used by FailZero on bolt carrier groups and is purported to reduce lubrication requirements - eliminate them, actually, but I'll stop lubricating my weapons when the owners of FailZero plate the internal components of their cars' engines with… Read More

Muzzle Device Flash Comparison – Brakes, Comps & Flash Hiders

Work ran late recently, so I was able to photograph a fairly consistent comparison of the muzzle flash resulting from the use of Federal .223 Rem 55gr FMJBT - also known as AE223 - and a 16" AR-15. Actually, there were two AR-15s used for this photo. The PWS TTO requires a thin wrench for removal and installation, and all I had at the range was a standard AR-15 armorer's wrench. All of the other devices were used on a Spike's Tactical 16" carbine length AR-15. Other than the bare… Read More

Centurion Arms C4 Rail Review

I have a good number of rails to review at the moment, some of which I've had longer than the Centurion Arms C4 rail. To say that I have a slight product review backup at the moment would be...stating that fact mildly. However, I have spent the most range time with and have the most photos of the Centurion, so without further ado, here is the video. Like a number of things reviewed here in the past, this rail was provided for review by Rainier Arms. The Centurion Arms C4… Read More

Praetor Defense Kydex Glock 19 Holster

I could have called this article "Praetor Defense Holster is the Greatest Thing Since Prehistoric Man Created Tools from Rocks and Sticks," and I would not have been far off the mark. My Holster Background I have owned dozens of holsters. They run the gamut from leather to kydex to fabric. Some are made from a combination of materials. Some have active retention systems, and some do not. Some are intended for concealed carry, and some are intended for open carry or duty use. I have holsters that are meant… Read More

Kahr CW9/CW40/CW45 Recoil Comparison

In this video, I shoot three different Kahr handguns back to back. All are loaded with standard pressure ammunition, in the heaviest (standard) bullet weights available for the caliber - 230s in the .45, 180s in the .40, and 147s in the 9mm. Although the CW40 actually "felt" more controllable than the CW45, you can see in the video that the CW40 had more muzzle rise. The CW9 was much easier to control than both of the larger handguns.

Male Thoughts on the Flashbang Bra Holster

Initially, I was content to leave discussion of the flashbang bra holster to female bloggers. This was for several reasons: - Number one, I don't like to discuss products that I have no experience with. - Number two, I didn't really think I'd ever get any actual experience with this product. - Number three, I don't think that I have a very large female audience, so it didn't seem like a pressing issue when I first heard of the product. Recently, though, I spent some time with someone who was… Read More
