Why Arc’teryx Clothing Is Expensive

There are two reasons why I am writing this article: 1. To explain what I've learned about Arc'teryx LEAF gear after wearing it very often for a year 2. To post photos of myself wearing said gear. When I first saw how much Arc'teryx stuff cost, I was incredulous. How could this be? A six-hundred-dollar jacket? Three hundred bucks for a pair of pants? Now, a year or so on, I'm sold on their products. Before I go any farther, I should also mention that most of my experience is… Read More

A 40,000 Round .223 Test, Or, the Last Six Months of My Life

I've been working on this comparison of Wolf, Brown Bear, Tula, and Federal .223 ammunition since July. I think those who read my blog will find it interesting. It should bring forth some real data to a number of discussions relating to AR reliability, wear, and the differences between types of ammunition... There seem to be some errors accessing the site right now, but it should be accessible to all soon.

AR-15 Dirt Test With Mike Pannone

Back in 2010, Mike Pannone and I were at the range doing some other shooting when we decided to do an impromptu dirt test with an AR. It was similar to the one I did in 2009, but with more ammo, and more dirt. I think we'll be doing another such test soon. Please forgive the poor production quality. Here's Mike's narration: The rifle is a 14.5 BCM M4 Spec barrel, spring was stock, buffer was H, trigger parts were factory. The rifle had fired 1200 rounds prior to the… Read More

BUIS/Optic Drop Test

In early May, I performed a BUIS drop test which was partially published on Military.com's KitUp blog several days ago. The unpublished portion involved an EOTech 552 and an Aimpoint CompM3. The EOTech used the standard thumbscrew mount, and the Aimpoint was in a GDI CMC7-OSM mount. POI shifted 12MOA to the right with the EOTech, POI shift was 1MOA or less with the Aimpoint. One thing I did not mention in the post which was sent to KitUp (due to word count limitations) was that after dropping the MBUS twice,… Read More

An off-the-cuff, unscripted video discussing various muzzle devices, with some high speed and HD range video thrown in for good measure.

Elzetta ZFL-M60 Flashlight Overview

I've been using Elzetta lights for several years and have found them to be extremely impressive. In this video, I discuss the features that set them apart from other lights.

The Magnum Amazon Boot: A Foot’s Best Friend

On this blog, I have done plenty of gear reviews. These reviews are most often based on extensive use of the item, in various climates or locations. Today I came to the realization that I haven't reviewed some of the gear that I've been using for the longest period of time, and this review is one step towards changing that. Unfortunately, in this case, the Magnum boots I'm reviewing have been discontinued. I therefore won't be spending too much time on individual features, but rather how they were manufactured and… Read More

Remington 870 vs. Mossberg 500

In this video, I cover my experiences with the Mossberg 500 and the Remington 870. I also describe how I came to carry and use the Remington 870 from the age of 10. My experiences with the Mossberg are more recent. I've been working on this video in my spare time for over a month - I'm not in love with it, but I'm fairly happy with it.

Back in 2009, I Had An Idea For A Light Mount

edit - light mount, not optic mount. end of day. brain fried. many apologies. Like the title says, in late 2009, I had an idea for a light mount. I sketched it out on a piece of construction paper with a crayon, and my rocket scientist friend Mike W (an actual rocket scientist, with patents to his name for rocket nozzles and stuff) turned those sketches into CAD drawings. Here is what it looked like. The idea was to throw the light forward while allowing adjustment for various hand positions… Read More

Packing Heat in Your Pants – 9mm, .38, .380 Pocket Carry Guns Compared

I've owned a number of small, concealable firearms over the years, and shot numerous examples. In the past, I've made videos about the Kel-Tec P3AT and the Smith & Wesson J Frame, but in this video, I'm going to compare pocket pistols in .380, .38 Special, and 9mm.
