AR-15 Muzzle Device Comparison

This article combines the three previous parts (flash, sound, recoil) into one link. One of the most popular accessories for today's AR15 owner is a muzzle device. Want less muzzle flash? There's a device for that. Want less recoil? There's a device for that, too. Want less muzzle flash AND less recoil? Some devices even claim to perform multiple functions. I have been closely studying how various muzzle devices perform for years, and this summer, with the assistance of Advanced Armament Company, B.E. Meyers, and Silencerco, was able to test… Read More

AR15 Muzzle Brake/Flash Hider/Compensator Comparison, Part 1

Note: While I work to verify my recoil data, I have decided to release the first part of this comparison, which covers muzzle flash. One of the most popular accessories for today's AR15 owner is a muzzle device. Want less muzzle flash? There's a device for that. Want less recoil? There's a device for that, too. Praetor Defense 1911 Holster Update

I've been using the Praetor Defense non-rail 1911 holster for a few weeks since I bought it from Weapon Outfitters. While I'm going to continue to use and test it, here are my initial thoughts. I was excited to try out the 1911 version, because I love the Praetor Defense Glock 19 holster more than I love ice cream. The elements are all there - the compact layout, the quality hardware, the tough belt loops, and the flowing lines that result from the way Blade-Tech molds holsters. This holster, like… Read More

CAT M4 Bolt Scraper Tool

I do not enjoy cleaning my black rifles or pistols. I don't mind cleaning a family heirloom or an antique with a wood stock, but the Glocks, 1911s, and AR-15s rarely see any cleaning whatsoever. Most of the time, my cleaning is limited to a bit of oil and a single paper towel. I should note that I shoot a lot, and do not experience issues with my weapons. When I was offered a chance to T&E a CAT-M4 cleaning tool, I did not exactly jump at it. Even if… Read More

Spike’s Tactical Dynacomp Initial Impressions

Spike's Tactical sent two Dynacomps for me to review, so I installed them on a few AR-15s that looked as if they needed a spiffy new part - my 16" Spikes lightweight carbine and my 20" A5-type rifle. Here are my initial impressions after a few weeks with the devices. The Dynacomps are priced at $89.95 and feature a Melonite finish.

Glock Beavertail Test Update

Here's the 3 month update on the Glock beavertail. The original video can be found here. I plan on making another video in approximately 3-4 months, as I get more time with the weapon. I'd like to thank GunsForSale for providing the 9mm and .40 S&W ammo used for this video, and Glock for the beavertail backstrap.

What Can The A2 Do For You?

I'll come right out and admit that I am a big fan of aftermarket muzzle devices. The PWS FSC556 is great for reducing muzzle rise (while not creating huge fireballs like other muzzle brakes/compensators), and the AAC Blackout and Smith Vortex do a fantastic job of reducing/eliminating muzzle flash visible to the naked eye. However, this doesn't mean that the ubiquitous A2 flash hider is completely useless. It does actually reduce muzzle rise slightly, compared to, say, the AAC Blackout, as I noticed recently while switching between the two for… Read More
