For those who couldn't make the May 25/26 AR15 course taught by myself and Jim Staley of Deliberate Dynamics, we have two more classes scheduled: one on June 22/23, and one on July 27/28. The May class is full. If you'd like to sign up, you may do so here.

Range Time With The Desert Tech HTI in .50 BMG
While at the Sniper Country facility in far northern Utah, I had the chance to shoot - but more importantly, shoot photos of - the Desert Tech Hard Target Interdiction rifle, or DTA HTI. It's a bullpup precision rifle which can be swapped between four cartridges - .50 BMG, .416 Barrett, .408 CheyTac, and .375 CheyTac. We were shooting .50 BMG. What follows is not a review, but a brief description of the rifle, along with some observations and photos. If you'd like to see high speed video. The HTI… Read More
Vuurwapen Blog Firearm Essay Contest Winners
Due to some unforeseen issues, it took a long time for me to be able to publicly select and acknowledge the winners of the essay contest I announced on Facebook late last year. I announced the contest on Facebook and made it open only to those who had already "liked" the blog because it was not an attempt to inflate the number of "likes" on Facebook. I wanted to spend my own money to reward those who already followed my work and showed intellectual prowess. As it turned out, it… Read More
I’m Teaching An AR15-Centric Training Course
Next month - over Memorial Day Weekend, May 25/26 - I will be teaching a class which will largely relate to the AR-15 platform. I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and a fantastic opportunity has presented itself. Sniper Country in northern Utah offers a phenomenal environment for shooting - with a known-distance range out to 1800 yards - as well as a lodge which students may stay in as well as use for classroom portions. The course has been designed to fill gaps left by other training… Read More
Five Tips For Precision Rifle Shooting On A Budget
As firearm and ammunition costs have skyrocketed recently and once-common items have become... uncommon, accomplishing anything related to shooting is now extremely difficult. This is especially true for something that was already not particularly cheap. Case in point: precision rifle shooting, or long-range rifle shooting. Of course, "long range" is a relative term. If you rarely shoot your AR-15 past 25 yards, then hitting something at 300 might seem like a daunting obstacle. At the other end of the spectrum, guys shooting .375 CheyTac practically need satellite imagery to hit… Read More
What Is Armor Piercing Ammunition?
I made a video about that. It's brief and not intended to convey a complete understanding of the topic - just get the basics out to the masses.
I’m Auctioning One Of My AR-15s For Charity
I am auctioning off an AR-15 to support a charity I believe in, Rogue Corps. Rogue Corps aims to facilitate the efforts of wounded veterans who wish to take part in the outdoor adventures they used to enjoy prior to injury. I built this AR-15 and it has been used as my personal home defense rifle for the last two years. For more info, see the Gunbroker listing.
Swiss Arms SG553s Available in the United States*
Ever since the dumbest firearms law in America, the ban on imported semiautomatic rifles, was enacted in 1989, it's been difficult for foreign manufacturers to sell their products here. Naturally, because people are smart and politicians are not, we've basically gotten around that law by importing certain parts and manufacturing others here in the US. This means we can basically have all of the same rifles, as long as the manufacturer is willing to make an effort to import/manufacture what they need. A manufacturer's willingness to go to these lengths… Read More
Drop Leg Holsters & Facebook
Recently, I was having a conversation with my friend Jim about drop leg holsters. He commented that it was pretty much a sign of a new or inexperienced person: someone that had maybe a lot of experience with guns on a square range, but not much experience in the field. I agreed. So I posted a comment on Facebook: Friend: "A drop leg holster is a sure sign of someone new or inexperienced." And he's right. This infuriated a number of people who seemed to take it as a direct… Read More
Dexterity & Motor Skills
I was first told about "fine motor skills" while in the military; the explanation I was given was that anything to do with using my fingers under stress was a bad idea. That doing so would not work, that I just wouldn't have the dexterity. I was told to use the bigger parts of my hand, or my fingers bunched together, to do any sort of weapon manipulation. This, they said, was a "gross" motor skill that would be better under stress, which apparently makes your fingers turn to jello.… Read More
